Mission Statement

The purposes of the cheer squads are the following:

  1. To promote school spirit.
  2. To represent the Highland Park Student Body at various sporting events.
  3. To represent Highland Park High School at cheerleader competitions.
  4. To represent Highland Park, the school district and the community at other school-related events.

History

“The first cheerleading squad, known as the pep squad, dates back to 1925 at the high school, and it was made up of only three students, one female “cheerleader” and her two male “associates.”  Boys remained on the cheerleading squad until the late 1990’s, but girls make up the current squad.  The cheerleaders can be seen at athletic events and pep rallies, cheering on their beloved HP Scots.  In 2013, the excitement of being a part of the cheerleading squad became a reality for HPHS students with special needs.  The Sparkling Scots performed at many pep rallies and on the sideline with the varsity cheerleaders for several football games.”
